DANIEL BEAR DAVIS
AXIS SYLLABUS :: IN-FORMING BODIES Daniel Bear Davis is an interdisciplinary performance maker and movement educator. He has taught Axis Syllabus, Contact Improvisation, and Composition internationally in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and throughout North America. Whether teaching physical skills or compositional practices, his intention is to foster tools for informed choice and increased possibility. His work has been presented at Performática (Mexico), The Imagining Bodies Symposium (Estonia), Dancing in Place Festival (Malaysia), the San Francisco International Arts Festial, SoWat Now Contemporary Performance Festival, and Looking Left Festival (California), and at the SEEDS Festival and E|MERGE Residency (Massachusetts). He has had worked with veterans and non-veterans in collaboration with EchoTheaterSuitcase project, and in San Quentin Prison with The Artistic Ensemble. His most recent group work explored intersections between the experiences of his students at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and the experiences of oppression expressed in interviews he conducted with Palestinians in the West Bank.
